Many of the classroom characters in this book are based on former students of mine from when I taught elementary school in California and Nebraska. Each student was invited to submit the animal and outfits they felt best represented them during their elementary school years. It’s been three decades since we followed the silver line together and I am delighted to see their younger spirits and our lunch routines come to life on the page. The students have all gone on to become exemplary human beings and I am humbled to know three of them went on to become teachers. The main character of this story, Ethan, is modeled after my nephew who is my favorite person to eat lunch with.
